Mario Lopez Thinks I'm Terrific!

OK, I swear this is the very last post you will read about Mario Lopez. This is really just a continuation of yesterday's post. I'll try to keep this short. I feel so nawsh from the antibiotics that all I can think about is getting back into bed.

Here it is... the moment you've been waiting 24 hours for. Mario Lopez at like age 12/13 penned this actual letter on lined paper from those big chubby pads where you yank the paper from the top.

It's funny how much I adored a kid who had maybe two lines during his entire two year career with Kids Incorporated. I remember rewinding our VHS thirty times, repeating the short scenes featuring Mario dancin' and a prancin'. He was so very lovely. Dressed in various '80s fashions with studs, spikes and gummy bracelets - I envied his trendy style (I had no idea they paid people to make kids on TV look that cool). His dark, wavy hair was thick and perfectly sprayed atop his heart-shaped cutesy-utesy little boy face. He was every 12-year-old girls dream, yet since he got very little teen press back then, he was virtually unknown. I, of course, noticed him!

By the time Mario Lopez morphed into musclehead A.C. Slater on Saved By The Bell, I was into cooler guys. Real guys who didn't need to show off their muscles. Guys like the Andy Fletcher and Alan Wilder of Depeche Mode and Morrissey from The Smiths.

As a kid I went through a two year period where I fell for the dark haired, tanned boys like Ralph Macchio and gymnast Mitch Gaylord. I wonder if Mario knows he was really nothing special to me. He was just a summer crush back in 1985. Yup, Mario Lopez was simply one of hundreds of celebrity crushes I had throughout the '70s and 80s.

Mario, if you're up late one night, Googling yourself, and stumble upon this blog entry - know that I really appreciate you taking the time to write me a personal note. I believe the author of this note truly is you, because the other letter I received was in girlish handwriting - maybe written by an intern or your mom. I'm glad you've made it big as most child actors faded away.

P.S. Where the hell are the other guys from Kids Inc.? Whatever happened to Ryan Lambert and Jerry Sharrell - for a while, I thought he may have secretly become Perry Farrell from Jane's Addiction.

No Mario Lopez Letter For You Today

This week has gotten off to a pretty crappy start. Because of the following situation, I cannot share my personal letter from a thirteen-year-old Mario Lopez with you today. It will just have to wait.

Yeah, so this week has sucked and it's only Tuesday. It's funny because back in day (four months ago) when I was employed, I'd read ranting Facebook status messages from SAHMs (cool lingo AKA "Stay At Home Mom") and wives who simply don't have to work. These status updates said things like, "Can't wait until this horrible day is over!" or "Friday can't come soon enough!"

Sitting at my desk with deadlines looming, a meeting approaching and a power-trippin' supervisor ringing my phone every fuggin second, I'd think to myself, is this chick kidding? I wouldn't mind being home all day - how bad could your day truly be?

I take it back. I'm sorry I doubted you people!

I feel guilty bitching, but the little things become so important when you're home and haven't much to do other than clean, blog, run errands, workout and shop. Our computer (RIP) blew up on Friday while I was sending resumes - is that a sign or what? I'm doomed.

I smelled burning wires and the thought of calling the fire department did indeed cross my mind, but I stayed strong. Instead I called Hubs. (Disclaimer: Please call the fire department if you smell smoke!) Apparently burning wires translates to "a hardware problem" which in a way was awesome news. Hubs is an IT guy, so a hardware problem meant that in no way was I at fault for possibly downloading a virus transmitted from clicking on an unfamiliar Facebook profile.

Limited to an old craptop (woes me) all weekend was painful. Now we're back up and running, but he hasn't had a chance to install and update various software like PhotoShop, the printer/scanner and other shiz. In other words, I can't bring you today's original blog, which included a letter I received from Dancing with the Stars' Mario Lopez back while he was the drummer on my favorite '80s show, Kids Incorporated. Yes, I know Fergie was also a beloved cast member and no, I'm not a fan. I don't even give a rat's ass about Mario these days, so whatever.

In addition to computer problems, I have very little energy because I mysteriously caught a severe STAPH infection and am on heavy duty antibiotics. The meds are killing me. The doctor called this morning to check on me and reported that tests came back as MRSA (like a really bad infection). I didn't know it was such a big deal. I read up on it and apparently if I don't take kick-ass care of myself and make antibacterial soap my best friend (which I already use!) I could end up hospitalized taking antibiotics through an IV.  I can't believe what I thought was like a bad pimple on my shoulder turned into this.

I need to seriously scrounge up some motivation because our Christmas tree (undecorated at least) is still chillaxin in the living room when it should be boxed and stored by now. I need to vacuum, mop and clean the bathroom yet all I really want to do is lay in bed.

So yeah, today is only Tuesday and I'm bitching like a baby about stupid stuff and feel incredibly guilty for feeling this way while all of you people are working your asses off for THE MAN.

Last minute edit after posting! OMG! I won an award from this awesome fellow blogger, Ian at The Daily Dose of Reality! Check me out, he talks about how cool I am :-)

My Personal Letter From Corey Feldman

Today's focus is on Corey Scott Feldman, BC as in "Before Corey Haim."  Corey Haim was adorable as well, but I want to share a few things about Corey Feldman as a youngster.

This is ...
Corey Feldman before he became friends with Michael Jackson.
Corey Feldman before he had long hair and snazzy footwear.
Corey Feldman before he was a dark vampire.
Corey Feldman before he was messing around with drugs.

Sure I adored him in Gremlins and The Goonies, but my love affair with Corey began much earlier than that. So I'm taking you back ... way back...

Just like I love bands before they sell out and feature their songs in car commercials, I loved my child stars before anyone knew them. I loved them when they had only two lines on Mork & Mindy, Love Boat and Cheers. I rarely liked the lead child actor. It was always his friend who appeared in maybe 10% of the episodes, whom I needed to know more about.

I remember Corey in commercials for cereal and McDonalds and later as the tiniest Bad News Bear (the TV series).

I remember catching Corey on an episode or two of Eight is Enough and One Day at a Time.

I remember Corey as the nosey kid next-door on a bizarre show called Madame's Place.  Madame was a feisty old diva puppet (yes puppet) with a heavy smoker voice.  Here's the intro credits - wait for it!!!!!

I remember recognizing Corey's adorable deep voice as Copper the hound dog back in the 1981 Walt Disney's animated film, The Fox & The Hound.

I don't remember Corey in Friday The 13th. That was rated R and I wasn't allowed to see R-rated movies.

I followed Corey throughout the majority of his career. In a way, it's as if we grew up together but as he got older, I outgrew him--yet consider myself somewhat of an adult fan of his today.

When I wrote my book on Aaron Carter, I came up with the pen name, Corey Barnes after the Coreys and another child star, CB Barnes.

In the mid-1980s, I wrote Corey at least ten letters. Finally, the week of August 6, 1985 something magical happened. I received a personal handwritten response that I truly believe was penned by Corey himself.  Weeks later, I received black and white photos, a typed bio, resume and info on how to join his fan club. I have a blue Trapper Keeper filled with letters, cards and other responses I've received from celebrities. Here's my Corey letter. It's hard to believe it's 25 years old. Check it out.
