King Tut Scared Me In First Grade

For some reason learning about King Tut freaked me out in 1st grade. I'm not quite sure why. Something about the idea of someone wrapped and tombed and wearing a mask. The images of the golden mask. Did anything you read about as a child frighten you? Dinosaurs? Lions and tigers?

mummy stuff freaked me out a little but also strangely intrigued me when I was a kid

Mummies are STILL freaky to me. Unfortunately, I was also a reader so I knew all about how the bodies were prepared. Shiver.....

Nothing really bothered me like that when I was a kid.

King Tut and mummification didn't scare me...it kinda fascinated me. Guess I have a strange fascination with death and morbidity. I love freaky stuff

Mummies still scare me, too! And sharks. And the Tea Party.

King Tut totally scared me too! My cousins thought mummies were way cool when that show came to the US and it totally freaked me out to see even a coloring book about King Tut. Later, I worked at the Metrpolitan Museum and had many close encounters with mummies. And? They were even freakier! Especially the kid ones....

Monsters under the beds...you know, stuff like that.

Oh, and the Tooth Fairy seemed kind of creepy as well.

You might hate this, but for some reason, I was totally and completely FREAKED out by PeeWee Herman.

probably too late to say this now....but I was freaked out too by king tut...mainly because of that Bert and Ernie skit on Sesame street where the king tut mummy tap danced and stuff....it scared the crap right out of me!

I was so into Egypt and King Tut when I was in first grade. It was about as close to real life fantasy as anything. The first book I ever checked out from my 1st grade library was a book on him!
